Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - Nicchaeus Doaks recorded a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds to spearhead the Chattanooga Mocs' 66-63 victory over the Furman Paladins in a Southern Conference tussle at McKenzie Arena.
The Mocs (15-9, 10-4 SoCon) dominated the post, as Matt Gywnne came off the bench to collect a game-high eight rebounds to halt Chattanooga's two-game slide. Stephen McDowell tallied 14 points, while Marcus Watts chipped in with 12 points and six boards. Kevin Bridgewaters only notched five points, but dished out a whopping nine assists.
George Brozos and Justin Dehm each logged 15 points in Furman's (4-19, 3-11) valiant effort. The Paladins hit 15 three-pointers, led by Dehm's 5-for-10 performance from long range. Noah States rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points.
Both teams struggled from the floor in the first 20 minutes, as Chattanooga held a 31-27 lead at the break behind 13-of-37 shooting from the field.
The Paladins nailed 10-of-22 from behind the arc in the second stanza, but they fell just short as the Mocs connected on half of their 26 attempts from the field. States' game-tying attempt fell just off the mark.
The game was won in the interior, where Chattanooga edged Furman on the glass, 46-34, and outscored the Paladins in the paint by a 30-18 margin.
