Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Andrew Goudelock scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the College of Charleston Cougars to a 68-63 win over the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a Southern Conference showdown at the Holmes Center.
The Cougars (11-12, 6-7 SoCon) also received 16 points from Tony White Jr., while Jermaine Johnson added 10 points and nine rebounds in the win.
The Mountaineers (14-8, 9-4) were paced by Donte Minter who scored 17 points in a losing effort. Donald Sims also got involved, tallying 13 points.
Despite shooting just 37.1 percent from the field in the first half, the Cougars still managed to take a 30-27 lead at the break.
Charleston took control of the game in the second stanza, shooting 14-of-29 from the floor to capture a five-point victory.
Strong defense was key to the win, as the Cougars limited the Mountaineers to 36.9 percent shooting from the field.
