Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Al Fisher scored 17 points to lead the Kent State Golden Flashes to a 64-61 overtime thriller against the Ball State Cardinals in a Mid-American Conference tussle at the M.A.C. Center.
Mike Scott netted 14 points and collected eight rebounds in the Kent State (18-5, 7-2 MAC) win, while Chris Singletary added 13 points. Haminn Quaintance tallied 12 points to go with a game-high 16 rebounds for the Golden Flashes.
Melvin Goins paced Ball State (3-18, 2-7) with a game-high 21 points, and Anthony Newell added 20 points and 12 boards in the losing effort.
The Cardinals were held to a miserable 29.2 percent shooting from the floor during the first period of play, enabling Kent State to take a 25-20 lead into intermission.
The Golden Flashes converted a paltry 25.0 percent of their attempts from the field during the second stanza, while the Cardinals shot at a 44.0 percent clip to force overtime at 49-49.
During the extra frame, the Golden Flashes converted 9-of-9 from the charity stripe to take the three-point victory. Ball State's LaRon Frazier had a chance to tie the game, but his last second three-point attempt rimmed out.
