Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Bryan Davis drained 8-of-11 from the field, pouring in 16 points while pulling down seven rebounds, and 18th-ranked Texas A&M blew past Iowa State, 69-51, at Hilton Coliseum.
Josh Carter added 12 points, all from beyond the arc, for the Aggies (19-4, 5-3 Big 12), who are riding a four-game winning streak. Despite trailing in the all-time series with the Cyclones, 7-6, the Aggies have triumphed in four consecutive meetings.
Jiri Hubalek finished with a game-high 18 points for Iowa State (13-10, 3-5), which has dropped four of its last five outings. Wesley Johnson, the Cyclones' leading scorer, returned to the lineup after missing Saturday's 64-56 loss at Nebraska with a sprained ankle. Johnson was the only other scorer in double- figures for Iowa State, netting 13 points.
Out of halftime, it was all Aggies, who went on a 23-9 run to start the second half. Davis dropped in 10 points and had three rebounds to highlight the burst. By the time DeAndre Jordan drained a jumper to cap the flurry, A&M stretched its lead to 20 points, at 53-33, with 11:19 to play.
The contest was well out of reach for Iowa State, which only came as close as 15 points the rest of the way.
"We are very versatile," said Texas A&M head coach Mark Turgeon. "Iowa State plays a certain way, and makes certain players have to step up. Bryan Davis was good in the second half. He really used his quickness. I was proud of our post guys."
Trailing by seven points in the opening half, the Cyclones ripped off a 10-0 run to briefly take control. Craig Brackins sealed the streak with a slam, and Iowa State was ahead, 22-19, with 4:23 left in the first frame.
Texas A&M responded immediately, though, closing out the half on an 11-2 burst. The flurry was finished off by a Jordan dunk that beat the buzzer, as the Aggies carried a 30-24 cushion into the locker room.
"I thought, in the first half, we executed our defensive game plan well enough to really keep us in the game," said Iowa State head coach Greg McDermott. "Had we done anything on offense, we could've had a nice lead at (the) half."
