NCAA Game Summary - South Florida at Georgetown

Final Score: South Florida 53 - Georgetown 63

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - DaJuan Summers scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds as sixth-ranked Georgetown held off South Florida, 63-53.

It was the first meeting between the schools since South Florida shocked then- No.20 Georgetown, 63-56, in Tampa in the team's regular season finale March 4, 2006.

"I was just trying to be aggressive as I usually am, but the rest of the games I wasn't 100 percent, health and ankle wise," said Summers. "I was trying to be more physical today and not just shoot the basketball and try to attack of the dribble."

Roy Hibbert added 13 points and Jessie Sapp donated 11 for Georgetown, (19-2, 9-1 Big East), which has won six straight and 11 of its last 12 games overall. The Hoyas were coming off a 73-61 win over Seton Hall on Saturday, maintaining their place in the national polls.

Dominique Jones ended with 15 points, while Kentrell Gransberry added 13 to go along with nine boards for the Bulls ( (10-13, 1-9), who have dropped nine in a row. Jesus Verdejo chipped in 11 points, while Mobolaji Ajayi added eight in defeat.

"Our two past games on the road, we have done a pretty good job against very good basketball teams," said South Florida head coach Stan Heath. "I think that even though we're not seeing the "W" behind the games, I think we see a team that isn't disconcerted even though we haven't seen a win on the road but we want to do that."

No doubt looking to pull off the upset, the Bulls surged out to a 16-6 lead at the start, helped along by a pair of three balls from Jones.

The Hoyas quickly closed ground, however, and cut it to 16-13 before enduring a cold spell in which they went nearly five and a half minutes without making a shot.

USF fared slightly better at the other end -- at least momentarily -- and on a Orane Chin jumper opened a 22-13 lead with about eight minutes remaining in the half. That was the last bucket the Bulls would make until the final minute, however, as they went 0-for-9 on field goal attempts and 0-for-2 from the line.

Gransberry finally broke the spell on a layup with 49 seconds left. By that time, the Hoyas had found a rhythm, and behind a 14-2 spurt, carried a 27-24 edge into the break.

Georgetown then righted the ship in the second half, opening on a 10-4 run. Austin Freeman capped the spurt with a trey, making it 37-28, and the Hoyas never looked back.

A Hibbert free throw later extended Georgetown's lead to double digits, 47-37, and though the Bulls later pulled within seven, they could get no closer.
