Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Pat Calathes scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Saint Joseph's Hawks crushed Villanova, 77-55, in Big 5 action at The Palestra.
Also scoring 20 points for the Hawks (15-5) was Rob Ferguson, while Darrin Govens added 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range as the squad won its sixth straight and the 11th in 12 tries.
The Wildcats (13-8) were paced by Dante Cunningham and Scottie Reynolds who each produced 12 points, the latter shooting a mere 3-of-12 from the field in the team's fifth consecutive setback.
Villanova couldn't stop the Hawks in the first half, allowing St. Joseph's to convert 54.5 percent from the field and 6-of-12 beyond the arc, all while the Hawks knocked down 15-of-19 at the free-throw line en route to a commanding 45-26 advantage at the break.
In the second half the Hawks continued to dominate, holding the Wildcats to a mere 2-of-9 behind the three-point line on the way to the 22-point decision.
Villanova was outscored at the free-throw line, 20-9, and turned the ball over 17 times as it had a 14-game Big 5 win streak snapped.
