Malibu, CA (Sports Network) - De'Jon Jackson scored a game-high 20 points on 4- of-5 shooting behind the three-point line, as the San Diego Toreros picked up a 61-58 win over the Pepperdine Waves in West Coast Conference action at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Also scoring in double figures for the Toreros (13-11, 6-1 WCC) in their fifth straight win were Rob Jones and Brandon Johnson with 16 and 11 points, respectively, the latter clearing nine rebounds as well.
The Waves (7-16, 1-6), losers of two straight and six of the last seven, were paced by Malcolm Thomas who registered a huge double-double with 18 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, adding six blocked shots and four assists along the way. Tyrone Shelley contributed 14 points and seven boards.
As San Diego shot 51.9 percent from the field, including 6-of-9 beyond the arc in the first half, the Waves struggled with just 28.6 percent shooting from the floor, resulting in a 35-22 advantage for the Toreros at the break.
In the second half San Diego cooled to just 36.7 percent from the floor and 1- of-7 beyond the arc, yet still managed to hold on for the three-point victory.
The Toreros survived despite turning the ball over 16 times and being outscored at the free-throw line, 11-4.
