Cullowhee, NC (Sports Network) - Brandon Giles scored a game-high 20 points as the Western Carolina Catamounts defeated Chattanooga, 70-64, in Southern Conference action at the Ramsey Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Catamounts (7-15, 3-9 SoCon), as the team snapped a three-game slide, were Eric Wilson and Jake Robinson with 13 and 10 points, respectively, with the latter also clearing a team-best nine rebounds.
The Mocs (14-9, 9-4), losers of two straight, were led by Stephen McDowell with 15 points on 4-of-7 shooting behind the three-point line, followed by Kevin Bridgewaters who tallied 13 points before fouling out. Nicchaeus Doaks chipped in 11 points and Marcus Watts 10 and nine rebounds in the setback.
Chattanooga made a total of just six field goals in the first half, resulting in the team's 33-19 deficit at the break.
In the second half the Mocs performed better with an impressive 60 percent shooting from the floor, but it was too little, too late as Western Carolina picked up the six-point victory.
The Catamounts, who scored the first points of the contest and led by as many as 17, forced a total of 20 turnovers, which they converted into 27 points.
