Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Ben McCauley dunked home a rebound as time expired to lift the NC State Wolfpack to a thrilling 67-65 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in ACC action.
Gavin Grant scored 17 points in the dramatic victory for NC State (14-7, 3-4 ACC), which got 14 points from Courtney Fells and 11 points from McCauley. J.J. Hickson managed a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Wolfpack.
Wake Forest freshman Jeff Teague tallied 17 points in the loss. Ishmael Smith pitched in 15 points for the Demon Deacons (13-7, 3-4), and James Johnson contributed 10 points.
Wake Forest led by nine points on two occasions in the first half and owned a 31-24 advantage at intermission.
Smith hit a shot with five seconds remaining in the clash to tie the score at 65-65. Gavin Grant's three-point attempt in the closing seconds bounced off the rim, but McCauley leaped over two Demon Deacons and dunked the ball with his left hand.
Wake Forest has now lost 10 consecutive road games in league play and 19 of their last 20 ACC road tilts.
Both teams committed just nine turnovers in what was a well-played contest.
