Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Deron Washington scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Virginia Tech Hokies to a thrilling, 72-65 overtime victory over the Virginia Cavaliers in an ACC tussle at the Cassell Coliseum.
A. D. Vassallo added 14 points for Virginia Tech (14-8, 5-3 ACC), while Jeff Allen tallied 12 points. Malcolm Delaney and Lewis Witcher both contributed 10 points apiece in the win.
Sean Singletary was the only player with double-figures for Virginia (11-9, 1-6), as the guard poured in a game-high 26 points in the loss.
The Cavs held Virginia Tech to a mere 33.3 percent shooting effort from the floor in the first half and went into the break with a slim 26-25 advantage.
Virginia shot just 36.4 percent from the floor in the second stanza, but used two free throws by Singletary with just seven seconds remaining in regulation to even the score at 54 apiece, sending the game into overtime.
The Hokies were outstanding in the extra session, shooting 66.7 percent from the floor en route to the seven-point win.
Virginia Tech won the battle on the glass in the contest, outrebounding Virginia by a 43-33 margin.
