NCAA Game Summary - Seton Hall at Georgetown

Final Score: Seton Hall 61 - Georgetown 73

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Jessie Sapp scored 17 points to lead sixth- ranked Georgetown to a 73-61 victory over Seton Hall at the Verizon Center.

Roy Hibbert and Patrick Ewing Jr. each chipped in 16 points for the Hoyas (18-2, 8-1 Big East), who have won five straight and 10 of their last 11 games. Hibbert also grabbed nine rebounds as Georgetown dominated the boards, outrebounding Seton Hall 49-21.

"Coach just talked about one shot for them and to make sure we put a body on them and not to give them second shots," Hibbert stated about his team's effort on the glass. "I think we've been making an effort to box people out, pursue the ball and run down long rebounds."

Brian Laing led all scorers with 24 points for Seton Hall (15-7, 5-4), which had a five-game winning streak stopped. Eugene Harvey added 13 points for the Pirates, who finished 20 points below their season average of 81.8 points per game.

The Hoyas carried a seven-point lead to the intermission, then increased it to 12 in the early stages of the second half when Sapp drilled a three-pointer for a 42-30 advantage. Seton Hall clawed back with the next eight points and pulled within 42-38 on a three-pointer by Jeremy Hazell with just under 12 minutes remaining.

It was just a five-point game five minutes later, but the Hoyas broke it open with a 17-4 run. Ewing and Austin Freeman each scored six points during the burst, and Freeman's jumper with just over two minutes left gave Georgetown a comfortable 66-48 cushion.

The Pirates got only as close as 11 in the final minute.

"When we had to make plays, I think we made plays at both ends," said Georgetown head coach John Thompson III. "And they're a team that forces you to make plays to win; you can't just go, can't just show up and play. It's a very, very good team."

Georgetown scored the game's first six points, but Seton Hall followed with the next six and it remained tight until the closing minutes of the opening half.

DaJuan Summers drained a three-pointer with just over five minutes left to snap a 21-21 tie and ignite a run of six straight Hoya points. The Pirates cut the deficit to three points on a pair of Paul Gause free throws with just over two minutes to play, but Georgetown scored the last four points to take a 33-26 edge to the break.

Sapp led Georgetown with nine points in the opening 20 minutes, while Summers and Hibbert each chipped in eight. Laing scored 10 for Seton Hall, which was outrebounded 24-10 in the first half. The Hoyas hurt themselves with 13 turnovers.

"Georgetown has an elite team," said Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez. "We tried to use our quickness to speed them up in the zone. We thought that bothered them and that kept us in the game for about 30 to 35 minutes. The problem is, they don't have many weaknesses."
