NCAA Game Summary - Marquette at Cincinnati

Final Score: Marquette 75 - Cincinnati 60

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Ousmane Barro poured in 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds, as 17th-ranked Marquette soared past Cincinnati, 75-60, in Big East action at Fifth Third Arena.

Lazar Hayward also netted 19 points for the Golden Eagles (16-4, 6-3 Big East), who notched their third consecutive victory and improved to 2-3 on the road. Jerel McNeal tallied 13 points while dishing out seven assists, and Wesley Matthews added 11 points with nine boards. Matthews has scored in double figures in five straight games and seven of the last eight outings.

Deonta Vaughn notched a game-high 23 points, though he was the only double- digits scorer for Cincinnati (10-12, 5-5), which has dropped three of its last four games. The Bearcats slipped to 8-5 as the host.

"We knew we beat a good team," explained Marquette head coach Tom Crean. "The margin of error is really small in this league, and when you play Cincinnati, it is as small as it gets. Our guys are proud to get the win."

Cincinnati used a 13-2 barrage midway through the second half to cut the deficit to four points. Kenny Belton knocked down a layup with 9:32 to go, and the Bearcats trailed 50-46.

That, however, was as close it got. The Eagles soon after went on an 8-0 spurt to regain a double-digit advantage and put the game away. Hayward drained the free throw that sealed the deal, as Marquette was comfortably on top, 64-52, with 4:09 left in the contest.

"Life in (the) times of Big East basketball: come out not ready to play against a ranked team, you will get out-hustled," said Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin. "You have to give Marquette a lot of credit, because they out- hustled us. They didn't hang their head when they missed shots, and they kept hustling. They out-rebounded us."

Out of the gate, the Bearcats established an early lead that was not relinquished until the Golden Eagles ripped off a 17-5 flurry to close the first half.

McNeal highlighted the burst, dropping in six points and cleaning up two boards. With 1:24 to play in the half, Dominic James connected on a pair from the charity stripe, and Marquette earned its first lead of the matchup, 26-24. Barro then capped the spurt, hitting a layup with 37 seconds remaining that sent the Eagles to the locker room with a 28-24 edge.

Following the break, Marquette extended its advantage with a 16-4 scoring streak. The run featured seven points from Hayward, who drained a bucket from beyond the arc to finish the flurry, as the Golden Eagles surged ahead, 48-33, at the 12:57 mark.
