South Bend, IN (Sports Network) - Luke Harangody scored a career high 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to an 81-74 overtime win over Providence in Big East Conference action at the Joyce Center.
Tory Jackson also got involved for the Irish (14-4, 4-2 Big East), tallying 14 points and seven assists, while Rob Kurz and Ryan Ayers added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Friars (12-7, 3-4) were led by Dwain Williams who scored 20 points on just 6-of-20 shooting from the floor. Geoff McDermott added 10 points and eight assists in the loss, while Jeff Xavier and Brian McKenzie chipped in with 10 points apiece.
Notre Dame shot 48.1 percent from the floor in the first half, to take a 32-31 lead at the break.
Providence rallied in the second stanza, shooting 12-of-30 from the floor to send the game into overtime tied at 61-61.
Notre Dame ran away with the game in the overtime period, shooting 8-of-10 from the free-throw line to capture the seven-point victory.
Foul shooting proved to be the difference in the contest, as Notre Dame outscored Providence 22-6 from the charity stripe.
