San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Brandon Johnson poured in 25 points, and the San Diego Toreros scored an upset of No. 21 St. Mary's, 63-55.

Gyno Pomare scored 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting for San Diego (11-11, 4-1 WCC), which has won three in a row and four of its last five. De'Jon Jackson added nine points and seven rebounds for the Toreros, who have won three straight for the first time this season.

Patrick Mills scored 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting for St. Mary's (17-3, 4-1), which saw its five-game win streak come to an end. Omar Samhan added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Gaels, who lost for the first time since being routed 81-62 at Texas on January 5.

The Gaels held a slim lead early in the second half, but the Toreros moved on top after two Pomare jumpers, the second giving San Diego a 36-35 lead with 13:18 left in regulation.

St. Mary's pulled back ahead, 48-46, on a Samhan jumper with 6:07 to play, but San Diego quickly answered with a Trumaine Johnson jumper and a Brandon Johnson three, pulling ahead 51-48 with 3:54 remaining. The Toreros ran off 12 straight points, capped by a three-pointer and a jumper by Brandon Johnson, boosting San Diego to an insurmountable 58-48 lead with 1:47 remaining.

Todd Golden's three cut the deficit to 58-53 with 42 seconds left, but Brandon Johnson and Jackson hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the upset win.

The two teams battled back and forth early, with the Gaels briefly pulling ahead by 11 late in the first half. Yusef Smith canned a three on a 10-3 spurt, and St. Mary's pushed ahead 29-18 on a Diamon Simpson free throw with 2:33 remaining. Pomare drained three unanswered jumpers down the stretch, though, pulling the Toreros within 29-24 entering the break.
