Gainesville, FL (Sports Network) - Walter Hodge had a game-high 19 points and Nick Calathes contributed 15 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds as Florida hammered 14th-ranked Vanderbilt, 86-64, at the O'Connell Center.
Hodge finished 7-of-14 from the field, while Dan Werner chipped in with 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Florida (18-3, 5-1 SEC), which has won three straight and seven of its last eight.
Marreese Speights had a solid game, dropping in 12 points and grabbing eight boards in the win.
Alex Gordon led Vanderbilt (17-3, 2-3) with 13 points and Andre Walker added 10 points and six rebounds. The Commodores have lost three of their last four after a 16-0 start.
After both teams struggled from the floor in the early going, the Gators found the range from three-point territory. Florida got back-to-back threes by Jai Lucas and Jonathan Mitchell as part of a 23-0 run and held a commanding 34-6 advantage with 9:14 left the opening half.
"The first 10 minutes was as good as we could have played," Florida head coach Billy Donovan said. "When you get up by that many points, you always get concerned. You want your guys to maintain aggressiveness."
However, Gordon put an end to the Gators' foray with a three, and six straight points by Walker and a triple by Keegan Bell cut the visitors' deficit to 38-18 with 4:08 left in the stanza. The Commodores then made it a 46-31 game heading into the intermission.
"We obviously got overwhelmed during the first 12 minutes of the game and we were never able to recover," Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings said. "We were not as emotionally ready to play as they were. They were faster to the ball and were the quicker and more aggressive team."
Florida shot 51.4 percent in the first half, compared to only 41.4 percent for Vanderbilt, which missed 17 of its first 19 shots.
Vanderbilt's Shan Foster, the SEC's leading scorer, averaging 20.1 points per contest, was held scoreless in the opening half and finished with only seven.
The Gators picked up right where they left off in the first as Lucas drilled a three in the opening minute of the second half and Florida maintained a double-digit lead through the remainder of the contest.
