Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Donte Greene tallied a game-high 24 points to lift the Syracuse Orange over the Providence Friars, 71-64, in a Big East showdown at the Carrier Dome.
Greene knocked down 8-of-20 shots from the field and 5-of-13 from long distance, as the Orange (14-7, 4-4 BE) snapped a two-game slide. Paul Harris scored 14 points and grabbed five boards, while Jonny Flynn had 12 points and five assists in the victory.
Dwain Williams paced the Friars (12-7, 3-4) in defeat with 21 points on the strength of 5-of-12 shooting from three-point range. Jeff Xavier and Jonathan Kale each turned in 16 points, as Providence dropped its second game in a row.
Syracuse held Providence to a dismal 29.0 percent shooting effort from the floor in the first half, as it took a 30-21 lead to the break.
In the second stanza, the Orange made 16-of-25 shots at the charity stripe, as it held on for the seven-point triumph.
Syracuse controlled the boards, 47-32, and it also held a 25-9 advantage in points at the foul line.
