Fairfield, CT (Sports Network) - Tyrone Lewis poured in a contest-best 27 points to lead the Niagara Purple Eagles past the Fairfield Stags, 73-61, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference bout at the Arena at Harbor Yards.
Lewis finished the contest 6-of-13 from long distance and he also recorded four steals, as Niagara (13-6, 7-3 MAAC) won its second straight game. Charron Fisher had a big day with 25 points and eight rebounds, while Anthony Nelson ripped down a game-high 10 caroms and dished out eight assists.
Anthony Johnson scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to guide Fairfield (7-13, 5-5), which had its brief two-game win streak snapped. Mike Evanovich had 13 points and five boards, and Herbie Allen chipped in with 12 points in the losing cause.
Fairfield made good on 57.9 percent of its attempts from the field and 14-of-17 at the foul line in the first half, opening a 38-34 lead at the intermission.
Niagara fought back in the second half and it closed out the game with a 13-3 run for the 12-point triumph.
The Eagles shot 42.6 percent from the field in the game and they also hit on 20-of-28 tries at the charity stripe.
