Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Brian Laing poured in a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as the Seton Hall Pirates slipped past the Cincinnati Bearcats, 64-61 in a Big East Conference contest.
Laing nailed 9-of-15 shots from the floor, as the Pirates (14-6, 4-3) won their fourth game in a row. Jamar Nutter turned in 20 points in the victory, while Jeremy Hazell had 10 points.
Deonta Vaughn scored 15 points and dished out four assists to lead Cincinnati (9-11, 4-3), which dropped its second straight game.
The Pirates closed out the first half with a 20-6 run and they held a 36-30 edge at the break.
The Bearcats fought back in the second half and tied the score at 53-53 with just under seven minutes to play. Laing, though, responded with a three-pointer to push Seton Hall ahead and it would never trail again in the three-point triumph.
Neither team had much success at the foul line, as Seton Hall converted just 17-of-30 attempts, while Cincinnati went only 7-of-16.
