NCAA Game Summary - Connecticut at Indiana

Final Score: Connecticut 68 - Indiana 63

Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) - Jeff Adrien and Stanley Robinson both dominated down low, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds each to lead Connecticut to a surprising 68-63 upset of No. 7 Indiana on Saturday.

Craig Austrie scored 15 points for the Huskies (14-5), who have won three straight, two over ranked teams. UConn defeated Marquette 89-73 on January 20. A.J. Price finished with 14 points, six assists, and eight rebounds for UConn, which won on the road against a tough opponenent despite missing two players.

Guard Jerome Dyson and backup Doug Wiggins were suspended for the game on Friday for violating team rules.

Armon Bassett led Indiana (17-2) with 18 points, and Eric Gordon contributed 14 points. D.J. White scored 13 points and ripped down 10 rebounds for the Hoosiers, who saw their 13-game overall win streak and 29-game win streak at home come to an end with their first loss at Assembly Hall this season.

"To come in here when they have a 17-1 team with some terrific players and have our kids give everything they had, I was just hoping the clock would malfunction and go quicker. We were running out of gas, but we found enough inside of us," said Huskies head coach Jim Calhoun. "I feel so much pride in my kids and how they responded and did everything we asked them to do. I'll remember this for an awful, awful, awful long time."

The Huskies held the Hoosiers at arm's length throughout the second half, pushing their lead to 40-31 on an Adrien layup with 12:27 left. Indiana pulled to within five points on a Jordan Crawford three-pointer two minutes later, but UConn quickly pushed its lead back to double-figures, with a Hasheem Thabeet dunk posting the Huskies to a 50-39 edge with 7:35 remaining.

Indiana chipped away, though, and made thing interesting late. A Bassett three cut the deficit to 62-58 with 56 seconds left, but Austrie sank two free throws with 51.1 ticks remaining to put UConn back up by six. Austrie added two more free throws with 39.7 seconds left to ice the win for UConn.

"Today the toughest team won. Connecticut was just tougher than we were," said Hoosiers head coach Kelvin Sampson.

Threes by Bassett and Gordon powered a 9-0 Hoosiers run to start the game. The Huskies clawed their way back into the game, though, eventually taking their first lead of the afternoon, 17-16, on a Price three-pointer with 7:55 remaining in the half.

The Huskies carved out a 29-24 lead by intermission.
