NCAA Game Summary - Loyola-Chicago at Butler

Final Score: Loyola-Chicago 50 - Butler 63

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Pete Campbell and Matt Howard both scored 15 points as the 15th-ranked Butler Bulldogs overcame a lackluster game from A.J. Graves and shook off a challenge from the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers to earn a 63-50 win at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Howard also grabbed 10 rebounds, and Mike Green added 13 points for Butler (18-2, 7-2 Horizon League), which has now won two games in a row and 10 of 11 overall. Graves managed just five points on 2-of-11 shooting as Butler's supporting cast stepped up in the victory.

J.R. Blount scored a game-best 16 points to pace Loyola-Chicago (6-13, 2-7), while Andy Polka scored 13 points and grabbed 10 boards as the only other Rambler to reach double-figures. The loss was the fourth in five games for Loyola-Chicago, a stretch that began with a 66-55 home loss to Butler on January 7.

The Ramblers trailed by just one point in the early going, but midway through the first half Butler unleashed a 15-2 run, capped off by a Howard layup that gave the Bulldogs a 28-14 lead with 6:24 to play in the half.

Loyola-Chicago mounted a slight comeback over the final minutes of the half, finally trimming its deficit to single digits after a Blount layup with five seconds remaining. However, the Bulldogs got nine points from Green in the half and took a 32-23 lead into the break.

The Ramblers drew within five just two minutes after halftime, but the Bulldogs scored the next five points to raise the advantage back to 10 points as part of a 12-4 run. The spurt was capped by a Wille Veasley jumper that gave Butler a 46-33 lead with 12:29 remaining.

Butler's lead never fell under seven from that point on, and after missing his first six attempts from three-point range, Graves finally connected from beyond the arc to give the Bulldogs a 59-46 lead with 2:36 to go.

The Bulldogs stretched the lead to as many as 15 points in the final minutes.
