NCAA Game Summary - Duke at Virginia Tech

Final Score: Duke 81 - Virginia Tech 64

Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Kyle Singler led a balanced Duke attack with 16 points and nine rebounds as the fourth-ranked Blue Devils easily disposed of a short-handed Virginia Tech team, 81-64, at Cassell Coliseum.

Gerald Henderson added 12 points for Duke (16-1, 4-0 ACC), which won its sixth straight contest. DeMarcus Nelson had 10 points before being tossed late in the game, while Greg Paulus also reached double figures for the Blue Devils with 10 points.

A.D. Vassallo had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Hokies (11-8, 2-3), who were playing without their second-best scorer and top rebounder, Jeff Allen. Allen is serving a two-game suspension for making contact with a referee at Georgia Tech on Saturday.

J.T. Thompson finished with a career-high 13 points and eight boards for Virginia Tech, which lost for the first time at home this season and have dropped two straight games overall. Deron Washington donated 12 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.

Duke entered the final frame with a precarious four-point lead but managed to carve out a little breathing room in the opening minutes. Henderson's jumper with a little over 13 minutes left gave the Blue Devils a double-digit cushion, 57-47.

Nearly three minutes later, Jon Scheyer drained a three to extend Duke's lead to 16, 65-49.

The Hokies never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way as the Blue Devils remained undefeated in the ACC.

Duke led by as many as nine points in the opening half when Paulus drained a three-pointer with just under six minutes to go.

The Hokies bounced back strongly, however, and closed to within a point after Thompson got loose for a dunk with under a minute left until intermission.

Taylor King then capped the scoring in the frame for Duke with a three and the Blue Devils took a 42-38 edge into the locker room.
