Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - Jamal Shuler posted 23 points to lead the Virginia Commonwealth Rams to an 82-65 victory over the Hofstra Pride in Colonial Athletic Association action.
Eric Maynor and Lance Kearse scored 17 points apiece for Virginia Commonwealth (14-4, 7-1 CAA), which got 12 points from Michael Anderson.
Charles Jenkins posted 18 points in the loss for Hofstra (4-13, 2-6). Darren Townes had 16 points for the Pride, while Antoine Agudio pitched in 10 points.
VCU led 38-32 at intermission after hitting six three-pointers in the first half. Hofstra, by contrast, did not knock down a single shot from behind the arc in the opening stanza.
Over the final 20 minutes, the Rams connected on 57.1 percent of their field goal attempts to seal the victory.
Although Hofstra did shoot 53.2 percent from the floor in the tilt, the team committed a high total of 22 turnovers.
