Jason Rich and Isaiah Swann tallied 17 and 16 points, respectively in the FSU (13-7, 2-3 ACC) win.
Mamadi Diane posted a game-high 21 points to lead Virginia (11-6, 1-3) in the losing effort, while Adrian Joseph scored 17 points to go with eight rebounds. Sean Singletary chipped in 11 points while dishing out seven assists for the Cavaliers.
FSU shot just 38.5 percent from the floor during the first period, but held Virginia to an even worse 35.7 percent, and the Seminoles went into the break with a slight 31-28 lead.
The Seminoles connected on 50.0 percent of their attempts from the field during the second frame and outscored the Cavaliers by a 23-11 margin during the final 8:58 of the contest to take the two-point victory.
The Cavaliers shot just 41.7 percent from the floor during the night, including a mere 10-of-29 from long range.
