Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Ahmad Nivins posted 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Saint Joseph's Hawks to an 81-77 victory over the Massachusetts Minutemen in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
Pat Calathes added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Saint Joseph's (11-5, 3-1 A-10), which got 11 points apiece from Darrin Govens, Garrett Williamson, and D.J. Rivera.
Ricky Harris tallied 30 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range for UMass (13-5, 2-2). Gary Forbes added 24 points and nine rebounds for the Minutemen, and Dante Milligan pitched in 12 points and 10 boards.
Saint Joseph's led 29-16 at intermission after limiting UMass to 7-of-35 shooting from the floor in the first half.
The Minutemen hit 23 shots from the field in the second half, including eight three-pointers, but the Hawks were able to hold on for the narrow victory thanks to 29 points from the foul line over the final 20 minutes.
Saint Joseph's finished the tilt with a 39-9 edge in points from the charity stripe, as the Hawks attempted a staggering 54 foul shots.
