NCAA Game Summary - Michigan at Wisconsin

Final Score: Michigan 61 - Wisconsin 64

Madison, WI (Sports Network) - Marcus Landry drained 14 points, including what proved to be the game-winning shot from beyond-the-arc, as the No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers extended their win streak to 10 games by hanging on for a 64-61 victory over the Michigan Wolverines.

Michael Flowers also notched 14 points for Wisconsin (16-2, 6-0 Big Ten), which improved to 12-1 as the host. Trevon Hughes added 12 points, though the Badgers snapped a streak of five games won by double-digit margins. Still, Wisconsin was able to sweep the season series against Michigan, after downing the Wolverines, 70-54, in the conference opener on Jan. 2 in Ann Arbor.

Manny Harris exploded for a career-high 26 points for Michigan (5-14, 1-6), but it has dropped three consecutive matchups and eight of its last nine. Ekpe Udoh and DeShawn Sims each chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds, as the Wolverines slipped to 1-6 on the road.

The squads traded baskets down the stretch, until Landry stroked a three- pointer with 24 seconds remaining in the game, stretching what had been a one- point Badgers lead to 62-58.

Sims tried to match, putting one up from beyond-the-arc, but he could not get it to fall. With the Wolverines forced to foul, Jason Bohannon knocked down a pair from the charity stripe to cushion the Badger advantage to 64-58, making the proceeding David Merritt three-pointer for naught.

"We just figured there were going to be a lot of games like this, ones that were going to come down to the last three or four minutes," Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan remarked. "We expected it to be a two or three possession game. If it was anything more than that, we would have shut down all scorers, and that just wasn't going to happen."

The Badgers went on the offensive in the early-going, ripping off a 10-2 run. In front of the Wisconsin goal, Hughes swiped the ball from Sims and slammed it through, capping the burst with Wisconsin on top, 15-8, with 10:34 to play in the opening half.

Michigan responded later, using a 9-2 scoring streak to cut the deficit to three points. Sims cleaned up a missed jumper by C.J. Lee, and the putback with 2:54 remaining made it 22-19, in favor of Wisconsin.

The Badgers were able to notch the final bucket of the frame to slightly extend their lead. Flowers dropped in a jumper with 35 seconds left, sending the Badgers to the locker rooms with a slim 28-24 edge.

After the break, the Wolverines squandered an opportunity to push ahead for the first time since it was 6-5 with 14:40 to go in the opening stanza. Udoh hit a jumper that brought Michigan within a point, 40-39, with 13:59 on the clock. Following an errant layup by Landry on the other end, Michigan took the ball back and managed to grab four offensive rebounds, but missed all those shots.

Wisconsin then proceeded to go on a 12-3 run, once again taking control. Flowers nailed a layup to finish the flurry, as the Badgers' advantage surged to 51-42 with 8:27 to play in the contest.

Michigan answered immediately, knotting the game with an 11-2 spurt. Harris highlighted the streak with five consecutive points, while Udoh was good for the final four points, connecting on a jump shot at the 4:13 mark to even the game at 53-53.

"I think there were four or five runs that Wisconsin made, and this game could have gotten ugly quick, but we fought back every time and answered," explained Michigan head coach John Beilein. "I am proud of our guys. That is the little victory we got tonight: not getting down when things didn't go our way."
