Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - David Lighty tallied 16 points, as the Ohio State Buckeyes held off the Illinois Fighting Illini, 64-58, in Big Ten play at Value City Arena.
Lighty finished the contest 2-of-4 from long distance and 4-of-5 at the foul line, as Ohio State (13-6, 4-2 BigTen) snapped a three-game slide. Evan Turner posted 14 points in the victory, while Kosta Koufos logged 12 points and four boards.
Rodney Alexander notched a double-double with game highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds to pace Illinois (9-11, 1-6), which fell for the seventh time in eight outings. Brian Randle recorded a double-double of his own with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Trent Meacham chipped in with 12 points in the setback.
Ohio State shot a blistering 61.9 percent from the field in the first half and it carried a 33-23 lead to the break.
Illinois fought back in the second half, but the Buckeyes used a 4-of-10 effort from long range and seven free throws to seal the six-point victory.
For the game, Ohio State made good on 54.8 percent of its attempts from the field and 8-of-18 from beyond the arc.
