Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - David Kool scored a contest-best 18 points and the Western Michigan Broncos routed the Central Michigan Chippewas, 72-52, in Mid-American Conference action at University Arena.
Kool went 5-of-12 from the floor and a perfect 8-of-8 at the foul line, as WMU (10-8, 4-1 MAC) won its third straight game. Joe Reitz also turned in a solid performance, netting 17 points and ripping down a game-high nine rebounds.
Marko Spica made 8-of-9 free-throw attempts and he finished with 10 points to lead the Chippewas (7-10, 2-3), who fell for the third time in their past four outings.
The Broncos opened the game with a 16-3 run and they carried a 30-17 lead into the break.
In the second stanza, WMU converted 19-of-22 attempts at the charity stripe, as it coasted to the 20-point victory.
The Broncos put together a strong performance on defense tonight, as they held CMU to a dismal 26.8 percent shooting effort from the floor, including a poor 3-of-19 showing from long distance.
