DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - Egan Grafel completed a three-point play with 20 seconds remaining, lifting the Northern Illinois Huskies over the Ball State Cardinals, 60-58, in Mid-American Conference action.
Grafel registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for NIU (5-12, 2-3 MAC), which snapped a two-game slide. Shaun Logan led the Huskies with 19 points and he also snared nine caroms, while Jarvis Nichols chipped in with 13 points.
Anthony Newell headed the charge for the Cardinals (3-14, 2-3) with a game-high 24 points and five boards. Peyton Stovall contributed 11 points and six boards, as Ball State fell to 0-7 on the road.
The Huskies shot 52.0 percent from the floor over the first 20 points of play and they took a 32-23 lead to the break.
NIU connected on 14-of-19 free-throw attempts in the second half and it used the three-point play by Grafel to pull out the two-point victory.
The Huskies dominated the boards, 40-26, and that helped compensate for their 19 turnovers.
