Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Matt Causey came off the bench and erupted for a career-high 30 points, as the George Tech Yellow Jackets outlasted the Virginia Tech Hokies, 81-70, in ACC play at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Causey, who was averaging just 5.1 ppg coming into the tilt, nailed 7-of-12 three-pointers, as Georgia Tech (8-9, 1-3 ACC) snapped a three-game losing skid. Anthony Morrow turned in 17 points in the win, while Jeremis Smith notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Deron Washington guided the Hokies (11-7, 2-2) in defeat with 15 points and eight rebounds. Malcolm Delaney and Jeff Allen each netted 13 points, while A.D. Vassallo put forth 10 points and nine boards. With the loss, Virginia Tech saw its three-game win streak come to an end.
Georgia Tech shot 50.0 percent from the floor, including a 7-of-12 showing from three-point land, as it raced out to a 39-23 lead at the half.
In the second stanza, Virginia Tech battled back and tied the score at 55-55, but the Yellow Jackets used a 15-of-19 effort at the foul line to pull away for the 11-point win.
For the game, Georgia Tech connected on 10-of-21 shots from downtown, while Virginia Tech went just 4-of-15 from beyond the arc.
