Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Roy Hibbert posted a game-best 21 points and senior DaJuan Summers added 17 points and 11 rebounds, as fifth-ranked Georgetown bounced back from its first conference loss of the season to down streaking Notre Dame, 84-65, at the Verizon Center.
The Hoyas (14-2, 4-1 Big East), fresh off a 79-70 defeat at Pittsburgh, responded with surprising ease against a Notre Dame (13-4, 3-2) squad that had won 11 of its last 12 entering the contest and four straight over Georgetown.
Austin Freeman filled the stat sheet with 16 points and Jessie Sapp added 14 points, as the Hoyas shot the lights out from the floor, the three-point arc and the foul line. Georgetown made 52.8 percent of its field goal attempts, 8- of-20 from long range and shot a respectable 69 percent from the charity stripe.
Luke Harangody led Notre Dame with 13 points and Jonathan Peoples added 12. Kyle McAlarney, one of the Big East's best long-range shooters, made just 2- of-8 from three-point range and 4-of-15 shots overall for eight points.
Peoples' three gave the Fighting Irish a 17-16 lead almost midway through the first half, but Notre Dame didn't make a field goal until McAlarney drained a three with 2:57 left in the half, a span of almost eight minutes.
Over that time, the Hoyas embarked on a 15-0 stretch capped by Vernon Macklin's layup for a 31-17 lead with 4:27 to go in the opening 20 minutes.
The Hoyas led 38-25 at the half.
McAlarney's second, and last, triple of the game again broke another long Irish scoring drought. Harangody's short jumper accounted for the second half's first points, but the Hoyas responded with Summers' three to start a 10-0 spurt capped by Hibbert's layup for a 48-27 edge. McAlarney's three with 14:40 to go broke a four-plus minute drought.
A three-pointer by Sapp pushed the Hoyas to a 66-42 advantage with 5:36 to go, and the final five minutes were played with Georgetown holding a large lead.
