NCAA Game Summary - Vanderbilt at Tennessee

Final Score: Vanderbilt 60 - Tennessee 80

Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) - Wayne Chism had 18 points, 18 rebounds, and four blocks, leading sixth-ranked Tennessee to an 80-60 win over No. 16 Vanderbilt, at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tyler Smith finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for the Volunteers (15-1, 3-0 SEC), who have won 10 in a row. JaJuan Smith also scored 14 points, as Tennessee remained one of two teams still unbeaten in conference play.

Shan Foster had 14 points and six rebounds, while A.J. Ogilvy tallied 12 points for the Commodores (16-2, 1-2), who have lost two in a row. Vanderbilt was held to under 70 points for the first time all season.

The teams entered Thursday's contest as the top two in scoring in the SEC -- Tennessee with 86.7 points per game, and Vanderbilt with an even 86. But the Vols' pressing defense forced Vanderbilt into an early hole, and the Commodores couldn't recover.

The closest Vanderbilt came in the second half was eight points, on the heels of a 15-2 run. Foster capped it with a three from the right corner to bring the Commodores within 61-53, and forced Tennessee to call a timeout with 7:38 left.

But several scoreless possessions later, Tyler Smith stripped the ball from Ross Neltner before the Commodores' forward could cross halfcourt. JaJuan Smith picked up the ball, and passed it to a sprinting Tyler Smith for a dunk that re-established the Vols' 10-point lead.

After an Ogilvy miss, Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings was called for a technical that led to Chris Lofton making 1-of-2 free throws. Chism made a jumper on the ensuing possession, giving Tennessee a 66-53 lead with 5:09 left.

Vanderbilt didn't come within 10 points of the Vols for the remainder of the game. The Tennessee defense suffocated Vanderbilt, and forced 22 turnovers, leading to 30 points. The Vols came into the contest averaging 21.1 forced turnovers per game, which ranks third in the nation.

Tennessee went on a quick 10-2 run, just past the midway point of the first half, to take control. Chism drained a wide-open three from the top of the arc to put the Vols on top, 27-17, with 5:41 left.

Chism hit another three with four minutes on the clock for a 15-point edge, and the Vols went into halftime ahead, 36-23. After the break, Tennessee continued to expand its lead, and with 12:46 left in the game, J.P. Prince gave Tennessee its first 20-point lead. He got the rebound off a missed jumper from Lofton, and dunked for a 54-34 advantage.
