Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - The Friars of Providence used the three-point line and 23 points from Dwain Williams to pull out an impressive 77-65 victory over the Connecticut Huskies in Big East action.

The victory was Providence's (12-5, 3-2 BE) third straight, as it hit a season- high 14 three-pointers. Williams was particularly hot from long range, hitting 6-of-9 from behind the arc. Brian McKenzie was a perfect 4-for-4 from three- point land and he finished with 20 points, while Geoff McDermott and Jeff Xavier added 12 and 11 points, respectively. McDermott also pulled down 11 boards to complete a double-double.

The Huskies (11-5, 2-3) lost for the first time on their home court despite 16 points and 15 rebounds from Jeff Adrien. Doug Wiggins came off the pine to record 15 points and five assists, but the other bench players only scored three points combined. A.J. Price added 12 points, and Hasheem Thabeet rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.

UConn took an early lead, but the Friars drained half of their 12 three-point attempts in the first half in a 34-32 Huskies' advantage at halftime.

The Huskies only tallied eight second half field goals, while the Friars were an even better 8-of-12 from downtown, as they cruised to the 12-point win on the road.

The Friars were overmatched under the basket, being outscored 32-10 in the paint, but their proficiency from three-point range (14-of-24) was the difference maker.
