Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Donald Sims poured in a career-high 28 points and the Appalachian State Mountaineers outlasted the Chattanooga Mocs, 92-83, in Southern Conference action at the Holmes Center.
Sims sank 6-of-11 shots from beyond the arc, as the Mountaineers (10-6, 5-2 SoCon) won their fifth straight game. Donte Minter posted 18 points in the triumph, and Kellen Brand had 13 points of his own.
Nicchaeus Doaks guided the Mocs (12-6, 7-1) in defeat with a double-double that consisted of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Khalil Hartwell and Stephen McDowell each turned in 14 points for Chattanooga, which had its four-game win streak snapped.
Appalachian State used a 13-2 run late in the first half to open a 46-38 lead at the intermission.
The Mountaineers knocked down 7-of-16 shots from long range and 9-of-9 at the foul line in the second stanza, as they captured the nine-point victory.
Appalachian State did most of its damage from behind the arc, where it went 14- of-34 on the night.
