NCAA Game Summary - Massachusetts at Dayton

Final Score: Massachusetts 82 - Dayton 71

Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - Ricky Harris scored 22 points and Chris Lowe added 19 as UMass upset No. 14 Dayton, 82-71, at UD Arena.

Gary Forbes donated 16 points and Dante Milligan 13 for UMass (12-4, 1-1 A-10), which snapped a two-game losing streak.

"I thought our guys did a good job and were focused on the game plan and executing it almost to perfection in terms of what we were trying to do," said UMass coach Travis Ford. "We were a team that was disappointed in our last time out and we responded. We looked like a wounded team out there and we responded. I think this was a team that was a ready to fight. Both teams played extremely hard and this was a very tough game."

Brian Roberts scored 21 points and Marcus Johnson added 15 points and 13 rebounds for Dayton (14-2, 2-1), which had a 13-game winning streak stopped. Charles Little donated 13 points for the Flyers, who finished 4-of-25 from three-point range.

"As I said a week ago, in this league if you don't come ready to scrap and play, you're going to have a hard time winning the game and that doesn't matter where you are playing at, who you're playing, where you're ranked and what your record is at," said Dayton coach Brian Gregory. "I think we didn't play aggressive enough and do the things we had been doing. When you don't do that against at team like UMass, you end up on the losing end."

UMass stormed out of the gate. Already leading 7-3, the Minutemen extended their lead with an 8-0 run, capped by Etienne Brower's three for a 15-3 advantage with 14:28 left in the first half.

Moments later Brower drilled another triple, giving UMass a 21-7 lead with 11:24 left in the opening half.

Dayton, though, finally responded. Mickey Perry's jumper sparked an 11-0 spurt pulling the Flyers within 21-18 with 8:33 left in the half.

Little's layup with 45 seconds left in the first half briefly put the Flyers ahead 31-30, but back-to-back three's by Brower and Forbes gave UMass a 36-31 lead at the break.

Johnson's three with 13:40 left cut the Flyers deficit to 49-46. The Minutemen answered, though, as a couple of three's by Forbes helped UMass to a 56-49 lead with 11:54 to go.

Dayton then went on a run of their own scoring eight straight, capped by a Roberts layup for a 57-56 lead with 10:10 remaining.

Moments later, Chris Lowe drilled two free throws to put the Minutemen ahead for good, 60-59, with 9:13 left.

A Lowe three with 4:47 left to play pushed the UMass lead to 70-62 with 4:47 showing on the clock.

The Flyers never seriously threatened down the stretch.
