NCAA Game Summary - Duke at Florida State

Final Score: Duke 70 - Florida State 57

Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - Jon Scheyer came off the bench to drop in 21 points as seventh-ranked Duke bested Florida State, 70-57, at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Gerald Henderson added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Devils (14-1, 2-0 ACC), who snapped a two-game skid against Florida State and prevented Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton from collecting his 300th career win. Freshman Kyle Singler chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.

Jason Rich deposited 18 points for the Seminoles (12-6, 1-2), who dropped their second straight ACC game and lost for the first time at home this season. Toney Douglas finished with 14 points.

Duke entered the final frame with a 12-point advantage and continued to toy with FSU in the opening moments. Scheyer nailed a jumper on the fastbreak to give the Blue Devils a 40-26 lead with 16:41 left in the contest.

The Seminoles finally awoke at that point with three consecutive buckets. Uche Echefu got loose for a dunk before Rich followed with a jumper and a layup to draw FSU within eight points, 40-32, with 15:23 on the clock.

FSU continued to chip away from there and finally evened things at 48 when Rich hit a jumper with just over nine minutes to go.

Rich struck again, this time on a driving layup with 3:46 left in the game to give the Seminoles their first lead, 55-54, since it was a 5-4 game.

Duke didn't fold, however and responded with a 8-0 run. Singler drained a huge three less than 20 seconds later to put the Blue Devils back on top of the see-saw, 57-55.

After DeMarcus Nelson followed by making 1-of-2 from the line, Greg Paulus came up with a huge steal and layup to give Duke some breathing room, 60-55, with 2:32 remaining.

Nelson then capped the run with a pair from the charity stripe with just 1:34 on the clock.

The game was essentially sealed when Ryan Reid was called for a technical foul with 30.8 seconds left for hitting Paulus near the face and head when the junior guard was prone on the floor.

Duke broke open a close game with an 18-4 run in the opening half. Henderson's slam, with 7:37 left until intermission, gave the Blue Devils a comfortable 30-13 edge.

Ralph Mims finally stopped the bleeding for FSU with a layup and the Seminoles closed the half with a bit of a flurry but still trailed 34-22 at intermission.
