Clemson, SC (Sports Network) - Cliff Hammonds scored 14 points, pulled down five boards and dished out five assists, to lead the 24th-ranked Clemson Tigers past the NC State Wolfpack, 70-54, at Littlejohn Coliseum.
Trevor Booker chipped in with 13 points for the Tigers (14-3, 2-1 ACC), who have won two in a row after dropping their previous two contests. Terrence Oglesby dropped 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting from three-point range, for Clemson, which will play at Duke on Saturday.
Courtney Fells had 19 points for NC State (11-5, 0-2), which has lost two in a row after winning its previous seven contests. Tracy Smith added 13 points for the Wolfpack, who will host Miami-Florida on Saturday.
A Smith layup pulled NC State within three, 14-11, with 7:46 remaining in the half.
However in the next few minutes, the Tigers responded with four three- pointers, while the Wolfpack added three layups, and Clemson took a 26-17 lead with just over four minutes to play in the half.
Oglesby, Hammonds and K.C. Rivers drained two three-pointers apiece in the final 6 1/2 minutes, and Fells added a trey for NC State with seconds remaining, to give Clemson a 32-24 lead at the intermission.
Four straight Demontez Stitt points, followed by a James Mays layup, capped a 6-0 run that left Clemson up 47-29, with 12:38 to play.
A Booker trey with 6:15 left gave the Tigers their biggest lead of the day, 59-36, with just over six minutes remaining.
NC State never threatened again as the Tigers coasted to an easy victory.
