Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Matt Gibson scored 14 points and hit the game- winning layup with 11 seconds remaining to lead the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors to a 65-64 victory over the San Jose State Spartans in a Western Athletic Conference clash.
Bill Amis also tallied 14 points for Hawaii (6-10, 2-2 WAC), which got 13 points from Bobby Nash.
DaShawn Wright scored 20 points in the loss for San Jose State (8-8, 1-3), while teammate C.J. Webster pitched in 16 points.
Wright scored nine points in the first half, leading San Jose State to a 30-24 lead at intermission.
After trailing by as many as 11 points in the opening stanza, Hawaii finally grabbed the lead with under four minutes left in the game. After Gibson put the Rainbow Warriors up by one point with the late layup, Wright missed a shot at the other end that would have won the game for the Spartans.
Hawaii has now won its last 11 meetings with San Jose State.
