Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Orlando Johnson posted 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Loyola Marymount Lions to a 73-68 victory over the University of Portland Pilots in West Coast Conference action.
Shawn Deadwiler also tallied 16 points for Loyola Marymount (4-14, 1-1 WCC). Corey Counts netted 14 points for the Lions, who got 10 points from Tim Diederichs.
Robin Smeulders posted 16 points and nine rebounds in the loss for Portland (6-11, 1-1), while teammate Nik Raivio scored 14 points.
Portland led 30-27 at intermission, as Loyola Marymount shot only 39.3 percent from the floor in the first half.
The Lions played much better in the second half, as they connected on 54.2 percent of their field goal attempts, including 5-of-10 from three-point range, to claim the victory.
Loyola Marymount finished the game with a 17-9 edge in points from the foul line.
