Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) - Alex Ruoff scored 23 points to lead the West Virginia Mountaineers to an 81-61 victory over the Syracuse Orange in a Big East Conference battle at the WVU Coliseum.
Darris Nichols added 17 points and six assists for WVU (12-4, 2-2 Big East), while Joe Alexander and Da'Sean Butler both tallied 13 points apiece.
Arinze Onuaku netted 15 points for Syracuse (12-5, 2-2), while Paul Harris contributed 12 points to go along with eight rebounds. Jonny Flynn chipped in 11 points, while Donte Greene posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mountaineers held Syracuse to a pathetic 30.4 percent shooting effort from the floor in the first half and went into the break with a 35-20 lead.
In the second stanza the Orange pulled away, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor en route to a 20-point win.
WVU made 9-of-24 three-point attempts, while Syracuse connected on just 3-of-13 shots from long range.
