Edgar Sosa added 10 points for Louisville (12-4, 2-1 Big East), while Terrence Williams chipped in seven points, but also collected a game-high 14 rebounds.
Jaron Griffin netted 23 points for Rutgers (8-9, 0-4), while JR Inman contributed 11 points in the loss.
The Cardinals held Rutgers to a pathetic 28.6 percent shooting effort from the field in the first half and went into the break with a 28-23 advantage.
In the second stanza Louisville shot a solid 52.2 percent from the floor and went on to collect an impressive 15-point win.
Louisville's bench tallied 25 points in the contest, while Rutgers' reserves posted a mere three points.
