Poughkeepsie, NY (Sports Network) - Jay Gavin sank 7-of-11 three-pointers and he finished with a game-high 23 points, as the Marist Red Foxes outlasted the Fairfield Stags, 77-70, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference battle at the McCann Center.
Louie McCroskey put forth 18 points and six rebounds for Marist (11-6, 5-1 MAAC), which won its fifth consecutive contest.
Herbie Allen led the charge for Fairfield (5-11, 3-3), scoring 19 points on 6- of-10 shooting from the floor. Anthony Johnson logged 16 points and nine rebounds, as the Stags dropped their second straight game.
Marist hit on 44.8 percent of its total shots in the opening period, taking a 35-33 lead at the half.
In the second frame, the Red Foxes shot 51.9 percent from the field and made 7- of-13 three-pointers en route to the seven-point victory.
Three-point shooting was the difference in this one, as Marist went 13-of-27 from behind the arc compared to just a 3-of-18 effort by Fairfield.
