Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Sam Young scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead 20th-ranked Pittsburgh over Seton Hall, 84-70, at the Petersen Events Center.
DeJuan Blair added 20 points and 14 boards for the Panthers (14-2, 2-1 Big East), who have won two straight and three of their last five outings. Ronald Ramon registered 14 points and eight assists and Keith Benjamin had 12 points for Pitt, which has won 12 straight at home.
Eugene Harvey scored 25 points to lead the Pirates (10-6, 0-3), who have lost two in a row and six of their last 10 contests. Brian Laing added 17 points for Seton Hall, which has lost eight of its last 11 to Pitt.
Leading 33-30 at halftime, Pitt opened the second half with a 12-5 run to take a double-digit lead. Tyrell Biggs scored four points during the surge, which Young capped with a three-pointer with a little more than 15 minutes left in the contest for a 45-35 advantage.
The cushion later extended to 13 points, 55-42, when Benjamin drained a three- pointer and Blair followed with a jumper with just over 13 minutes left.
Young later made it a 16-point affair with a trey at the 5:16 mark and Pitt cruised to the finish from there.
"Brian Laing was a little shorter than me so I was able to get a lot of points under the basket, plus I was hitting outside shots so I was a little hard to contain," Young said.
Pitt hit 11-of-20 from three for the game, led by Young's 4-for-4 performance. Ramon also hit four (4-of-8) and Benjamin drained three (3-of-5) from beyond the arc for the Panthers.
"Pittsburgh right now is a cut above us," said Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez. "We're not far away, but we're not quite there yet either."
