NCAA Game Summary - Saint Peter's at Marist
Poughkeepsie, NY (Sports Network) - Jay Gavin scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Marist Red Foxes captured an 86-71 win over the Saint Peter's Peacocks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the McCann Center.
Gavin made good on 5-of-7 shots behind the three-point line for the Red Foxes (10-6, 4-1 MAAC) as they won their fourth straight outing. Spongy Benjamin and Louie McCroskey contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Peacocks (4-11, 1-4) were paced by Darrell Lampley with 15 points off the bench as the team lost its second in a row and the ninth in the last 10 games. Todd Sowell added 14 points and Wesley Jenkins 13 in the setback as well.
Saint Peter's had trouble finding the range from the field in the first half, shooting just 33.3 percent, including 3-of-14 behind the three-point line, en route to a 49-27 deficit at the break.
In the second half Marist continued to shoot the ball well at 51.9 percent from the floor, allowing the team to cruise to the 15-point triumph.
The Red Foxes finished the night converting a healthy 53.3 percent from the field, compared to just 36.5 percent for the visitors.
