Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Jerry Smith scored 14 points to lead the Louisville Cardinals to a 63-54 win over the West Virginia Mountaineers in a Big East Conference showdown at Freedom Hall.
Earl Clark also got involved for the Cardinals (11-4, 1-1 Big East), tallying 11 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
WVU (11-4, 1-2) was paced by Joe Alexander who scored a game-high 22 points. Alex Ruoff chipped in with 13 points for the Mountaineers.
Louisville got off to a quick start, shooting 12-of-33 from the floor in the first half, to take a 32-24 lead at the break.
The Cardinals put the game away in the second stanza, shooting 47.8 percent from the field en route to a nine-point victory.
The Louisville bench was the difference in this game, as the Cardinals' reserves outscored the Mountaineers' bench 30-4.
