Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - Stephen McDowell put up a game-high 22 points on six trifectas as the Chattanooga Mocs upended the UNC Greensboro Spartans, 78-73 in Southern Conference play at McKenzie Arena.
Chattanooga (11-5, 6-0 SoCon) remains perfect in conference play and has won seven of its last eight games. Kevin Bridgewaters added 14 points, and Matt Gwynne notched 12 points off the bench. Nicchaeus Doaks rounded out the double- figure scorers with 10 points, while Marcus Watts recorded team-highs of seven assists and seven rebounds.
Mikko Koivisto also drained six three-pointers for UNCG (9-5, 3-2), but the Spartans could not extend their win streak to seven games. Koivisto ended up logging a team-high 20 points, while Kendall Toney chipped in 17 points. Kyle Hines posted yet another double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mocs headed into the locker room with a 33-30 halftime lead thanks to 7- of-14 shooting from behind the arc in the first half.
The Spartans came roaring back from an 11-point second half deficit to hit 11- of-22 from outside the arc to lead 73-72 with one minute left in regulation. After a Kevin Goffney bucket gave Chattanooga the lead, the Mocs made 4-of-4 from the foul line to secure the five-point win.
The game featured amazing three-point displays from both teams, as the Spartans hit 12-of-34 from behind the arc and the Mocs hit 14-of-26 from the same distance.
