Statesboro, GA (Sports Network) - In a thrilling contest at Hanner Fieldhouse, the Georgia Southern Eagles pulled out a 96-90 overtime victory over Southern Conference foe College of Charleston, as Willie Powers led the way with 23 points.
Julian Allen posted an efficient 15-point, nine-rebound effort to snap GSU's (10-5, 3-2 SoCon) three-game losing streak. Matthew Field added 18 points and seven rebounds, while Louis Graham logged 14 points. Dwayne Foreman only put up eight points, but dished out eight assists and did not commit a single turnover.
Five Cougars (7-8, 2-3) notched double-digit points, but it was not enough for the visiting squad. Tony White Jr. paced Charleston with 26 points, but turned the ball over seven times. Dustin Scott contributed 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, and Andrew Goudelock came off the bench for 14 points. Jermaine Johnson and Konimba Diarra tallied 12 points apiece in the loss.
The College of Charleston hit 14-of-27 from the field in the first half to take a 37-30 lead at intermission.
The Cougars shot an even better 64.3 percent from the field in the second frame, but the Eagles hit 19 field goals and led 80-78 with 29 seconds left in regulation. Scott hit a runner in the lane on the Cougars' last possession and the teams went into the extra period tied at 80 apiece.
GSU pulled out the six-point win by hitting 5-of-8 from the field in the extra frame while holding the Cougars to just two field goals.
