NCAA Game Summary - St. Bonaventure at Xavier

Final Score: St Bonaventure 68 - Xavier 83

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - C.J. Anderson scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the 24th-ranked Xavier Musketeers defeated the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 83-68, at the Cintas Center in the Atlantic-10 opener for both teams.

B.J. Raymond also scored 21 points for Xavier (13-3, 1-0 A-10), which has won five straight games. Drew Lavender had just nine points for the Musketeers, who have won seven straight against the Bonnies.

"Tonight it was me and B.J. [Raymond],"said Anderson. "We did what we had to do to win the game. Next game it could be Drew [Lavender] or Stan [Burrell] or somebody else."

Zarryon Fereti scored 22 points and Michael Lee had 21 points and 12 boards for St. Bonaventure (6-9, 0-1), which has dropped four of five.

"I thought our team gave great effort," said St. Bonaventure Head Coach Mark Schmidt. "If we can continue to give that effort we can surprise some people. We lost to a great team."

Xavier scored the first nine points and never looked back. However, it wasn't until a 14-4 run late in the first half when the Musketeers took control. Jason Love capped the run with a layup at the 4:42 mark, giving Xavier a 31-19 lead.

The Musketeers then ended the half scoring eight of the final 11 points to go into the locker room with a 44-30 lead.

In the second half, the Bonnies made one run, drawing with 53-46 following a Fereti three-pointer with 13:23 left, but that was as close as Xavier allowed the game to get.

Xavier scored the next seven points, capped by a Lavender three-pointer just over two minutes later, and coasted to the finish.

Later in the half, nine straight points by Xavier put the game out of reach. Anderson capped the surge with a three-point play for a 74-50 cushion with just over seven minutes to play.

Malcolm Eleby had 10 points for the Bonnies.
