Danny Sumner netted 17 points in the William & Mary (6-8, 2-2 CAA) win, and David Schneider added 16.
The duo of Heiden Ratner and Juwann James tallied 14 points each to lead James Madison (9-5, 2-2), and James added a game-high 11 rebounds. Abdulai Jalloh tallied 13 points in the losing effort, and Terrance Carter chipped in 10.
James Madison used a 9-for-9 effort at the charity stripe to take a 30-27 lead into the break despite shooting just 32.3 percent from the floor during the opening period.
The Tribe battled back in the second stanza, converting 57.9 percent from the field and adding 16-of-22 from the foul line to take the three-point victory.
The Dukes struggled from three-point range during the contest, hitting a meager 3-of-18 from beyond the arc.
