Storrs, CT (Sports Network) - Jeff Adrien registered his seventh double- double of the season with 20 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as the UConn Huskies captured an 81-65 win over the St. John's Red Storm in Big East Conference play at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
A.J. Price made good on all four of his three-point tries on the night, finishing with a career-high 25 points for the Huskies (11-3, 2-1 Big East), adding seven assists and four rebounds as the team won for the sixth time in the last seven outings. Stanley Robinson and Jerome Dyson contributed 15 and 12 points, respectively, the latter also tying a school record with nine steals, of which eight came in the first half.
The Red Storm (7-7, 1-2) was paced by Justin Burrell who tallied 17 points and grabbed six rebounds as the squad lost for the third time in the last four games. Anthony Mason accounted for 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Larry Wright came off the bench for 11 points in 14 minutes.
Although the team made just 9-of-18 at the free-throw line in the first half, the Huskies still managed to put together a 45-32 advantage at the break.
In the second half UConn converted 55.6 percent from the field to put the game out of reach and secure the 16-point win.
Shooting 52.5 percent from the floor for the night, the Huskies survived a mere 12-of-26 effort at the charity stripe.
