NCAA Game Summary - Seton Hall at Marquette

Final Score: Seton Hall 56 - Marquette 61

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Jerel McNeal had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Dan Fitzgerald hit the game-sealing three-pointer with nine seconds to go as 15th-ranked Marquette recovered from a 13-point first- half deficit to outlast Seton Hall, 61-56, at the Bradley Center.

Fitzgerald finished with 12 points and Dominic James added 13 to go with his five rebounds and three assists for the Golden Eagles (12-2, 2-1 Big East), who bounced back from a 79-64 pounding at West Virginia on Sunday that came on the heels of a seven-game win streak.

Eugene Harvey had 18 points to lead Seton Hall (10-5, 0-2), which also got 13 and eight rebounds from Brian Laing before the Big East's leading scorer fouled out in the final minute.

McNeal hit one of two free throws with 1:14 remaining in the game to put Marquette up 56-52, but Harvey answered with a pair at the other end to trim the lead back to two before Seton Hall called timeout.

Laing was then called for a questionable bump of James on the floor, resulting in his fifth foul, and James hit both from the stripe to make it a 58-54 game with 57.4 seconds remaining.

Seton Hall freshman Jeremy Hazell attempted a three-pointer from the left wing, but McNeal closed quickly and blocked his shot, though the Pirates retained possession when the ball rolled out of bounds. Larry Davis then scored when he spun through the lane, went to the glass and drew a foul, sending him to the line with a chance to complete the three-point play and pull Seton Hall back within a point.

But Davis missed, and Fitzgerald provided the backbreaker when he bagged a corner three off a dish from Wesley Matthews with just nine seconds to go, thwarting the Pirates' upset bid.

Lazar Hayward had seven points and six rebounds for Marquette, which overcame a 20-for-61 (32.8 percent) shooting performance to earn the win.

Davis and Jamar Nutter, who also fouled out down the stretch, finished with nine points apiece for the Pirates, losers of two of their last three.

Seton Hall used an 11-0 run - capped by Harvey's breakaway layup - to take a 22-9 advantage with just under seven minutes to go in the first half.

Marquette rallied for an 11-2 spurt of its own, as McNeal's bucket with 3:10 to go pulled the Eagles within 24-20. But the Pirates closed the half strong, and took a 31-24 cushion into the break.

McNeal's jumper at the 13:19 mark of the second half brought Marquette back within one, at 36-35, but Seton Hall scored seven of the next nine - capped by Nutter's three-pointer - to stretch the lead back to 43-37 with just over 10 minutes to go.

A three from David Cubillan and a layup in transition by James tied the game at 47 with six minutes remaining. Maurice Acker then hit a pair from the line to regain the lead for the Golden Eagles, and after Harvey hit 1-of-2 from the stripe, Hayward's three pushed the advantage to 52-48 with 4:20 left.
